promise of a so

Aaron Kharkamni 1999 (Shillong)

    You,
a daughter and
a sister
You,
know Pain?
kissed abandonment?
a father dead
mother refused to stay
i don’t want you!
now You,
orphan and
disposed
You?...
tell me please
was it hard
to live for
yourself and sister?
     i now call you
Mother
forged out of anger
and yet, i hear
you speak—
Help me
with the dishes,
Help me
type the question papers,
no worries
Mum
of course i will
help,
of course i will,
i’ll be there
I promise.
