The beach or the mountains
Which do you like more
the beach?
or the mountains?
I like the beach more
That is in theory
I spent my childhood living near the beach
An entirely different world to me now
I had friends I’d known my entire life
Acting like the sand that engulfs one in security and comfort
The warm and salty air of the ocean
acting as the cookies my neighbor had made by entire life the sweet aroma as recognizable as water from oil
With a sense of familiarity and assurance
A dazzling sunset acting as a catalyst catching everyone’s gaze to something that is much too perfect to look away from
This is what the beach is…
That is in theory
In reality
My time spent at the beach
Was just a bit more complex
the friends acting as the sand were just as temporary one small wave and you are left bare alone with no security left
Along with the ocean comes the pollution
The strife and violence of the waves
The area I’d known to live near my entire life had also been one to fear being left with the pollution that is loneliness and despair forcing me to learn how to fight through an environment where if you didn’t you’d get tossed aside left to drown in the violence of the waves
The people around me as unforgiving and uncaring as the tides
Even the police meant to protect instead acting as the eels of the ocean preying on those who couldn’t protect themselves
Preying on a child who didn’t know he had to protect himself
This is what the beach is
To me
So once again I’d like to ask you which do you like more
the beach or the mountain
