Journey

The open road stretches out ahead,
No fixed location to be sought or led,
I travel purposefully towards a dream,
An elusive destination, or so it seems.

The path may twist and turn and bend,
But onward I move, with each step I ascend,
To a place unknown, yet somehow known,
My journey takes me to parts yet unshown.

Through bustling cities and quaint towns,
Amidst nature's beauty, and expanse of grounds,
I move with conviction, with a heart full of hope,
Towards a destination that I must grope.

My feet may ache, my spirit may tire,
But I push on, for I have a desire,
To see what lies beyond the horizon,
And unlock the secrets of life in motion.

And as I travel, I come to see,
That the journey matters more to me,
Than the destination that I seek,
For in living, I find all that I need.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
