Dead Stars
One, two, three
Do, Re, Mi
Listen, just listen to me
Take a look, come closer and see...
The night sky, all black and empty
Like a ruined art that lost its beauty
"Open your eyes." A voice whispered softly
He felt stone cold air wrapped his whole body
It was dark, so dark and silent
But his inner demons are quite violent
They say things he doesn't wanna hear
Strong enough to awaken a dead man's fear
"Drink, drink quickly!" the voice instructed
And tomorrow you'll surely be remembered
People will light candles and bring you flowers
They'll write loving messages on scented papers
The unknown potion left a bitter aftertaste
Such a reminder of another life - gone to waste
His mind was clouded with unspoken words
Visible scars - neither said nor heard
Many times he struggled for hope to remain
But all of his efforts just ended up in vain
He wants to fight and not quit at the least
But the vultures around him await the feast
Tears continuously rolling down his cheeks
The sound of laughter he desperately seeks
His vision now blurry of those countless doubts
Mouth covered with bubbles of soundless shouts
He felt the touch of grass on his ragged face
It wasn't greener - a lie he's forced to embrace
Slowly he tried to stand and get off the ground
Pushed through pain, to this end he's not bound
The voice started to whisper one more time
But his ears no longer admire the rhyme
The knight mighty tales he dreamed in the past
Cannot keep him high so the drug did not last
He sneered as he walked out of that shitty hell
A strange victory he would be proud to tell
But still, the voice kept telling awful things
Coupled with haunting shadows it often brings
And so he turned around to check once more
That voice that killed his light before
He asked, "Evil voice, what else can you do?"
"You can't steal joy from someone who's already blue!"
It shouted back, "You can't imprison me for good behind these bars!"
But it knew, there was no light left to take from such dead stars...
About this poem
This poem narrates the hidden darkness there is to an invisible war. That day to day exhausting yet repetitive defeats and the horrors it gradually leaves. Note: Depression kills. Just because you don't know how it feels doesn't mean it isn't real.
