Thoughts

I lie awake and count the days,
That I might have lived other ways,
And curse the wasted time now past,
And wonder if my life shall last.

As thoughts arise within my mind,
Of love and peace for all mankind,
I ask when life will ever change,
And find these thoughts indeed are strange.

When will sickness forever cease,
And all men know the joy of peace,
As hate and wars each disappear,
And love overcomes endless fear.

But times now gone should lie in rest,
And days now left should be the best,
For thoughts of future days are bold,
And life shall break this daydream's hold.
