Pop’s Playbook

Life is more than a game so play it with passion, never jump the gun too soon, you know, neutral zone infraction. Work hard until work is relaxing. Your job prepares you for a career. So never show up late to practice. You have to balance life, stay sharp and be steady. I showed you how to know when a blitz is coming, so keep an audible ready. Make sure your withdrawals are less than your deposits. Doing this will ensure your quarter-back in the pocket. A pep talk is meaningless without action, so remember that heavy is the helmet who is called the team captain. To get to the end zone, sometimes you’ll need to ground and pound. Stay humble and don’t juke too hard, you’ll end up out of bounds. I taught you good sportsmanship that will turn your yards into miles. And when life throws you penalties, just accept them with a smile. When things aren’t going as planned, always challenge the odds, and when you are winning, never forget to thank God. You see everyone loves to win and for things to go right. Just remember when the tables turn, not to lose your appetite. Read in between the hashes and lines of this playbook because it means way more than what’s been told. If you study it carefully, I’ll be there to celebrate with you at the Super Bowl! -

Until The Big Game, Pops

About this poem

Hello reader, I wrote this poem in honor of my late father. This poem shares the lessons and teachings of my father told to me as a child in a language we both loved speaking… FOOTBALL. I pray you enjoy.
