Possession

Possession,
Unlike the genuine orgasma
       Of first love,
Is what you lop towards
Me
With,
       Your basket of hope-
Hope to possess me,
As if you could catch a scent on the wind,
       Or a lost ghost’s memories.

And I never outgrew
Wondering
        How the glinting stars maintain
Their premeditated promise
To keep shining,
Even when they are
         Challenged with wishes
         From people like you
         Who believe it is ok
And viable,
To wish for the possession
        Of another’s person’s soul.

    Absolutely gut-wrenching and brilliant writing.

Loved your poem. These were among the notes I took for the August contest:

“… a poem on the stark difference between authentic love (the genuine orgasma) and the almost huntsman desire to track, capture and possess a person—and worse still, to call that love. The latter perspective almost seems infernal, devilish: “To wish for the possession / Of another’s person’s soul” |

I love the line about never outgrowing the wonderment of glinting stars”

Thought you might appreciate my sharing these. Cheers …
