Walking
I am walking down an old dirt road walled with trees towards my future. I see nothing ahead of me. I begin to wonder if there is something wrong as something tells me this is my future. I am scared of what this could possibly mean, so I turn around to go back to my past, but the road is gone. I look around at where I am; the soft green grass, the bright blue sky, there is no sun, but is is light. It's like the land of doves. As I walk around, no idea of where I'm going, I begin to understand that there is nothing for me and no one to care for me. I fall to the ground and weep. I realize that there is no reason to do this, for there is no one can hear or help me here in my world of silence. So, I stand and walk towards the horizon and into my future of utter silence.
About this poem
I wrote this prose at the end of 6th grade, on June 20, 1991 and it describes how I felt at that time. I had just moved cross-country with my immediate family. I went into the 6th grade at an elementary school, whereas all my friends back in Wisconsin got to go into the junior high.
