Prepping for another Day

Kathryn Martinez 1979 (Torrance CA)

I wake up with a stale tear

From my sleepless tired eyes

Hoping that the end is near

For the sorrow in my life

Forcing myself to get up

With motivation long time ceased

Praying for a change of luck

As the day proceeds

Telling myself that I'm tough

I've been through worse before

This pain I've had more than enough

And I don’t need anymore

Plugging up another pierce

From my bleeding heart

Persuading myself to be fierce

So I don’t fall apart

Now I'm ready to face the day

Just about all prepped

“LORD, please walk with me”, I pray

Because there’s not much of me left.
