Revenant

Scrape, scrape goes the night
Waking me from a dream
To greet a nightmare

A ragged, hungry breath
Shambling in the shadows
Enfolding me
Keeping me still
With undiscovered terror
At what lies lamenting
In this living abyss

Pure fear uncoils
In the viscera
Of my very being
Cold terror snakes
Through my veins
The terrible gloom
Palpable
A black, heavy ink
Choking my senses
Drowning my sanity
Forcing me to sink or swim
Into this wrathful darkness

So I move, bound
By naked instinct
To bear witness
To the horror
Lying in wait
For the foolish

Pushing through
The gasping blackness
I find the true form
Of my forgotten fear
Clutching at his chest
Collapsed
Wordless with pain

His eyes speak to me
Of a life winding down
As the sum
Of his electricity
His children call a memory
Become just theocentric fireflies
Shivering in his pupils

Glowing then gone.
