Sibilant Song

Sunlight glitters on the surface--
Bright, it hurts the eye.
Listen closely you may hear
Its elemental cry.

Gently rolling, silken movements,
Soft caressing tide.
Soothing music to the senses,
Fleeting, whispering sigh.

Starlight softly is reflected,
Seductive is its call.
Mirror surface gently beckons,
Stirs longing in us all.

Hear it now, it roars in anger,
Hurls itself upon the shore!
Restless spirit never falters
Tide to tide forevermore.

Oh, the pull of its dark beauty,
I'm fascinated, drawn.
Truly always I am haunted--
Sibilant siren song!

About this poem

The inspiration for this poem came while I was attending a conference. At an evening event, the river at the venue was like liquid glass and its beauty sang to me. In all it's forms, water is majestic and magical, from the smallest creek to the the ocean.
