Voices and Visions”
“Voices and Visions”
Noisy thoughts bombard me
in night’s silence
Causing eery visions to appear
Monsters weep hot tears
upon my eyelids
Zeeping echoes magnify my fears
I lie awake and wonder,
will sleep find me,
Or am I too consumed
by gremlins of the night?
If only I could leave
the noise behind me-
I would dream in peace
till morning’s light
I press my palms against my ears
to block the voices
My eyes clenched tight
to make the visions disappear
Then I realize
it’s all about my choices-
I can live with passion,
or be fossilized by fear
So I choose to let the voices
and the visions
Scatter seed inside my mind
and let them sow…
Unafraid now,
I give them their provisions
Made impotent, they acquiesce
…and go
About this poem
Obsessive thoughts can be challenging in our waking hours, and to a good night’s sleep as well. The best way to release ourselves from their hold, is to disarm them by ‘letting them be’, because fighting them only fuels their fire. This task is made more difficult by the horrific suffering we are all witnessing, too many experiencing on this earth. I pray, I hope, I dream, I imagine…a kinder, more loving world for our children and grandchildren.
