Whispered Shadows

She stood atop a mountain
Letting every wave of emotion run through her like a tsunami crashing down
She stared... waiting for the perfect time to say, "It's over; I'm done"
Waiting for someone, anyone, to see that she is, in fact, NOT okay

She stood atop a mountain
Contemplating whether she is worth all the pain and stress the world has put her through
She jumped
Jumped back to the realization that she needs not to be perfect
Needs not to jump…
…Jump back into that car
And down that mountain
Take back MY life

I stood atop my own life now
Looking back up that mountain
Knowing that I had jumped
But this time, I jumped into my mind and stopped
Took a second and realized
I had taken control

About this poem

I wrote this poem sitting in math class, after I had taken a super stressful test. I was struggling mentally and needed to get some of it down on paper. So, I started writing and this is what led me too.

I am from a big family, 6 siblings and I don't even know how many cousins. This has led me to get looked over very easily, I was always the one who was playing with everyone, and trying to include as many people as I could. This action was not reciprocated. The earliest memory of poetry that I have starts in 7th grade. My teacher instructed us to write about something that makes us wonder. I wrote a poem about birds chirping on a cloudy, windy day. Now why did I write this? Well, I thought back to when I was a little kid and no one invited me to play with them, while I always made sure everyone had someone, or something to play with. I wonder why these people just chirp on and on, while the wind is blowing around them. more…
