A Mile In My Shoes...
Robert Catron 1963 (Kansas)
Have you ever noticed that life can get you down,
You give it all that you have but you can't seem to turn your frown around?
I've lived many lives in my short time here on this earth,
And I've made many mistakes every since the day of my birth.
I've been deeply hurt many times and in so many different ways,
But to realize that I've hurt people myself - hurts deep inside of me - for all of my days.
I've given all of my heart to everything that I've ever done,
I gave so much of myself away - but got so little back - that my life was no longer fun.
So one day I woke up and I decided to take a different path,
Now people ask of me - well has it payed off - you can figure out that math.
They say a penny saved is a penny earned,
Question I ask - is it really worth saving - if all the bridges you left behind were burned?
You try to find some happiness in this life of sorrow, hurt & pain,
But I'm here to tell you that one man's riches - may not be worth the gain.
I've had all of the riches a man could ever want and other times I've slept under bridges to survive,
I know what it takes to make me feel truly happy and I know what it feels like to barely feel alive.
I've learned that our lives are indeed our own ships to sail,
If your ship sinks or stays a float is up to you - we all decide if we are going to win or fail.
We can blame ourselves or the world and simply let our lives just self destruct,
Or we can get off of our asses - take charge - and change our own luck!
We are only in this life - on this earth - for a very short span,
At the end of it all - were you thankful for whatever you had - or did you just steal and take all you can?
I feel we must understand that we are all in control of our own destiny,
We decide for ourselves honestly if we are going to live life miserable or live it happy as can be.
So next time your feeling sad and depressed or your down to your last buck,
Do what I have learned to do - lift your life up to the Lord and try his brand of luck!
