Foreign Friends
We have finally arrived
to this place called Earth,
where we come in precious peace
for our colony's rebirth.
It was serendipitous to find
your timeless distant call.
An answer to salvation
from this blistering burning ball
that destroyed our whole world
in a random act of fury,
and sentenced us to exile
with no Courtroom, Judge, or Jury.
Now let's observe in hiding
these humans with belief,
that they're friendly like their message,
and could help us rid this grief.
But the data reinforced
what my eyes in sadness saw:
"They're a self-proclaimed king species,
who ravaged their kingdoms raw."
You make holes and clear forests
with your fracking and your hacking
that expel malicious methane,
and promote oxygen lacking
in the atmosphere around you
where all life plead and pray
for you to lend your ear,
yet you listen light-years away.
You bite the land that feeds you,
yet you ask it for more food?
Then you'll beg for pardon dearly,
yet your actions remain crude.
And your system is so funny!
In which many work for few.
Paying taxes before necessities.
Your priorities' not on cue!
I can't fathom your accounting.
Are people costs, not assets???
That honor's with machinery,
who could steal your future's facets.
There can't be others like you.
So confused among the stars.
You live to make your planet
look like its neighbor, Mars.
We traveled with excitement
that our species would unite.
But your greed is so sinister,
you'll exploit us with delight.
Quick! We must leave swiftly!
Before they notice we exist.
Let them send their warm welcomes
into the dark and cold abyss.
About this poem
I believe we live in an amazing planet which we need to respect. We have not done that. We spend so much money trying to listen into outer space. So much money looking for other life. Yet there are issues which need solving here at home that we can invest in. Perhaps there are aliens. Perhaps they know we exist. Maybe they studied us and decided to stay away.
