As I lay here and grow older
Gannon David Reed 2005 (california)
February 24As I lay here and feel older, I realize the adaptation of my imagination.
Maybe it is the condensation of the clouds that produces a sensation so beautifully profound that it captures my gaze and astounds me with wonder.
Maybe the intricacies of spoken tongue are not near enough to explain the inspiration that it takes to compel one so profusely towards an understanding, a revelation, a communion with divine energy and gratitude and love that expands with every thought, every word, every bird that flies through the minds world like memories that leave imprints but can’t seem to stay within the frame of the universe’s whirl.
Instead I lay here and feel older.
Different but the same yet on a higher plane, channeling something deeper than the mundane mediocrities of today's day and age.
Baffled by my own youth, I ponder this deep truth as it seeps through the fabric of evolution becoming ever so renewed.
Passed down through every tradition.
Every religion and every human condition.
So I sit here and write and flow to the rhythm of inspiration much like the rhythm of life where there is constant growth, change, and obligation
Sometimes it’s okay to not be able to sleep at night and instead write and write and write until you feel you have dipped your toes into the ocean of God’s light.
As I lay here and feel older, I can’t help but smile and say “it’s gonna be alright”.
About this poem
I was laying in my bed one night unable to fall asleep. My mind was rambling and I was thinking of every version of myself from my earliest memory to my most recent and I was reflecting with gratitude on this feeling of maturity that came about me. One that cant be faked but just happens at it's own accord. I heard these rhymes in my head and the inspiration hit me so tremendously that I had to get up and write down the flow of thoughts pouring out. I hope you enjoy and relate it means a lot to me. more »
