My Drawer of Chaos

Free verse
Now in the depths of chaos does lie, something that once did catch my eye I confess, seeing the tines, bowls, and spatulas at rest in what can only be described as a lovely mess.

Yet, relief does fill my soul for a reason.  My madness before demanded order and direction.  To the obsession of my former self, I have strived too overcome the relentless voice demanding perfection.  So now ...manageable... yet in finite space Chaos does rein, and a smile appears on my face...at least for now.

This poem comes from a mental joy I found at finally relaxing my need to control every area of my life.

Charles Lee Mayne

Born in Dallas, Texas. Raised in Mesquite, Texas. I went to North Mesquite High School and performed as a member of two choirs. I played the slide trombone in the Big Blue Band, our marching band, and the symphony orchestra. I ran track my senior year. I went on to attend East Texas State University (now called Texas A&M Commerce). I was on the football team for several seasons until I went back to my first love. Playing the trombone in Trombone Choir. I graduated from University with a bachelors degree in May of 1991. I spent most of my adult life working for Temp companies. I enjoyed the flexibility of the Temp structure. Through my life I have written verse. Many notebooks contain unpublished works. I am now looking to publish them. more…
