I Was A Friend
I Was A Friend
I know how bad you need a friend
Despite what you may say
Who’ll be there through the thick and thin
No matter what it takes
I hear your cries for help, I do
In behaviors you display
And I have never judged you
Even when you pushed away
There were times you broke my heart
And I cried myself to sleep
But I still welcomed you with open arms
When you were ready to make peace
I helped you with your burdens
By carrying most the weight
‘Cuz I could tell that you were hurting
And it was more than you could take
I was there when you were angry
And you had no one else to blame
When you started acting crazy
I was there for you to hate
I tried to be your ride or die
I had your back in every way
Even when you were stabbing mine
I’d tell myself someday you’d change
When others talked bad about you
With nothing but disdain
I defended all the things you do
And condoned all your mistakes
Deep down I knew your evil
It was just so hard to face
So I just stroked your ego
And loved you anyways
You never saw what I went through
You don’t care you make me sad
Your number one is always you
And I’m just your punching bag
But I can no longer be a part
Of the destruction that you make
It’s just getting way too hard
To be a pawn in all your games
Good luck to you, my dearest friend
May you find peace some day
I have my own wounds to mend
From the damage you have made
About this poem
This poem is dedicated to someone I tried to help but found out the more I built them up, the more they broke me down. I had to finally admit defeat and walk away before she completely destroyed me.
