NO ONE ...
Barry Green Jr 1973 (Florida)
NO ONE …
I
Who am I? Nothing. No one
I'm a forgotten whisper in the wind
I am no one child, no one's son
The vapors of smoke my only kin
I have nothing, I am nothing
All I once was is forgotten
YoBut no matter, no pain can bring
No Yesterday or remember when
For I am the Pauper, I am the King
And I am the Fighter and the Lover
And I'll bring a caress and a sting
I tell of ending, and starting over
Who am I? Right now I'm the Storyteller
That, I think, is enough for any sane man
Blessings in telling the tale make me fuller
And this tale, well I'll tell as I can…
II
Once upon a time, so such stories start
Lived a warrior, strong in battle, and grand
Mighty as his sword was His gracious heart
In his love for his God, wife, and Land
Any need he was ready to serve, fight, even die
He gave to his neighbors as freely as to his kin
Quick with comfort for sad souls who cry
As well as forgiveness for any slight or sin
In war he was fearless, gave quarter if asked
Gracious in victory or defeat, loyal as well
Not once did he complain on all he was tasked
Led his men safely through all kinds of Hell
Men died for his company, women his heart
But in love, as in all things, he was true
Of course therin does our story truly start
With a woman, and love, all good stories do
III
His name was Elon, a Lord in the land
He served the king who was kind and just
The prince, however, had a wicked hand
And a black heart filled with hate and lust
It came to pass,it always does, the king died
Elon with his wife, came paid sorrowful respect
The young king was there, beaming with pride
He saw Elon’s wife, lustful thought inject
Elon returned home, the king’s lust inflamed
So he plotted, planned, schemed and dreamed
And sent a decree, Elon a traitor it so named
Took his land, his wife, however it seemed
Upon learning of this a rage filled his heart
Elon led his men against the wicked young king
Oh the battle was epic! A tale I dare not start
If I did I'd not be able to say another thing?
Three days they fought, outnumbered was Elon
In the end his forces scatter, and Elon ran
And His wife, feared him dead, wept for Elon
The king in rage, slew her, buried her in sand
IV
Elon wondered the mountains, lost and alone
Praying for answers, but he found none
Homeless, heartbroken, he slept on the stone
Mourning his lost love thinking life done
And as he wept, he cried to the Lord
“ All my life I served you, why am I here?
What harm have I caused, oh my Lord?
Why have you taken all I hold dear?”
The Lord spoke to him in a gentle breeze
Calming him, telling him to await His plan
Elon bowed, humbled and on his knees
Placed himself in God's protective hand
God taught Elon to forgive the King
To humble himself before God above
And the Grace of God healed everything
Elon was sealed, accepted in God's love
V
Elon returned to his country fearless and brave
He appeared before the young King's court
Instead of anger or vengeance, love he gave
He lay down his sword, as an offering of sorts
In a wicked glee the young king seized Elon
He stripped him and watched as he was beat
In joy and triumph threw him in the dungeon
Proclaiming at dawn, death he will meet
Quickly the news spread through the land
Quiet rage disturbed the city's night
And rose a group of men, a might band
Came and freed Elon with hardly a fight
They brought the bound king to Elon
With a sigh, he ordered the king free
He said,” there's enough blood, this Dawn
To no more bloodshed, a party will I be”
Elon left the land then, none can say where
And the people freed, and exiled the king
And to this day neither returned there
And the sad saga the people still sing
The king though, by Elon's mercy was humbled
He learned of the faith that let Elon let go
He changed, made new, though he stumbled
And shared everywhere Grace Elon did show
VI
Who am I? I am nothing, no one
I only live to serve my Lord
I am no one's child, no one's son
Only by my God am I restored
I have no home. I have no kin
I'm the Storyteller now done
My name is forgotten on the wind
Who am I? No one…
AMEN
