Love for Israel
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
When Israel was a child,
Out of Egypt God called His Son;
He loved them though they were wild,
Because of the things he had done.
As the more that they had been called,
The further they had gone away;
Sacrificing had made them flawed,
Burnt offerings caused them to stray.
But God had taught Ephraim to walk.
By taking them up by the arms;
Healing them from His little talk,
Shielding them from the one who harms.
God led them with cords of kindness,
Surrounded them with bands of love;
Opened their eyes from the blindness,
That Satan had caused them thereof.
He came to them to ease the yoke,
And bent down as the One who fed;
Never as the One to provoke,
Unto the promised land He led.
