Burner Phone Pete
What became of the girl you once professed to love?
“I suppose she grew weary of playing second string,”
Your eyes, seasoned in the art of manipulation,
Now beckon a vacancy... for me.
Broken vows and seductive allure,
History stages an encore.
Lonely hearts' forbidden fruit,
You revel in the pursuit, elusive as smoke,
Eager to ensnare, yet slippery to grasp.
Like a glass of moonshine whiskey, half-drunk,
Enough for bravado, yet guarding self-restraint.
You resist surrendering to inhibitions,
Safe within your fortress of deceit and lies.
Brick by brick, you've constructed a facade,
The scent of masked manipulation luring me in.
Blindfolded by your treachery,
I'm seduced by the illusion of us.
Why did it have to be me?
Across the bar, fate's invisible thread draws me near,
Two souls tormented, suddenly enraptured by love's possibility.
Could it be?
I should have seen through your masterful deception,
But I met you amidst my despair,
When darkness enveloped my world.
I wished for you to be my guiding light,
Yet you were but a mirage,
False flames flickering in the wind.
It feels as though I've known you in another life,
Your touch, like an echo of familiar skin,
Surprisingly, I find myself vulnerable in your presence,
Yet in this existence, our shared experiences
Are woven from a tapestry of deceit and lies.
It's unjust,
I'm enraged,
I yearn to let go,
Though a part of me clings on,
Desperate to believe in you.
But I glimpsed the truth,
I saw the evidence.
I know who you truly are,
And it's not the person you claim to be.
How can you be so callous?
Pining for love without embracing vulnerability,
Declaring all men liars,
A convenient escape when the weight of reality becomes too much.
When my needs suffocate you,
And you feel trapped.
When life's hardships prove too daunting for a coward,
You once told me all you craved was genuine love,
Did it sting your conscience to send that message,
From a phone brimming with deceit?
Perhaps you are my karmic retribution,
And perhaps, I am yours.
But eventually, I too will grow weary…
