The Question I Asked
Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)
What would we lose if we could choose,
With wishes that went up to three?
A question asked so easily!
You might just say why ask that way,
Instead of "What things are there to gain?
So wise and really very plain!"
I asked that when I thought again
Of all who won and "threw away"
The jackpot that was theirs one day!
It's not enough when times are rough
To say "I know what I would do
If so much wealth were mine. It's true!"
Temptation's found and all around.
You never need to go too far.
It finds and likes you as you are!
