When Sixty Seems Old and Time Goes On Forever

albert browning 1943 (Puritan Mines, WV)

Held a girl today who's just 19 and my mind begins to
    wander
A lovely lass I think of the past and my body starts to
    shutter
My mind raced back so many years when I first met her
    mother
Of a time when 60 seems so old and time goes on
    forever

I used to dream of golden years, retirement, a lot of
    fishing
Stay up all night and sleep till noon full of life's
    passions
But her I am old and gray, of the good old days a
    thinking
Of a time when 60 seems so old and time goes on
    forever

Today I stand with a stick in my hand my eyes have lost
    their gleam
No longer erect, my body's a wreck it's hard to move it
    seems
I'm reminded, good times of my life, sweet memories
    and dreams
Of a time when 60 seem so old and time goes on
    forever

So sad this day a little girl is crying on my shoulder
Her great granddad and my best friend will not be
    getting older
My eyes are clear and I now know I've reached the
    point in life
When 60 is a  little young and time won't last forever
