The Worker Bee

~Worker Bee~
Written: 30 March 2023

*Not one of my best. More just spilling out frustrations*

Work harder they say.
Do better.
Prove yourself.
Your worth.
Your value.
Take on this task.
That task.
Oh can you do this too.
That too.
This deadline.
That item.
THIS email.
Type. Type. Send. Follow up. Repeat.
Put out the fires.
Pick up that one's slack.
Push. Pull. Push. Pull.
How dare you be negetive.
Demotivated.
Ungrateful for the pizza party.
More pay? I don't want to buy myself out.
You're doing great.
You're awesome.
Thanks for all you do.
But no changes in your lifestyle.
Because work should be what you do it for.
Wake up depressed.
Go to bed depressed.
Pop this anxiety pill.
Drink some red bull.
Maybe some coffee too.
Binge eat to fill the nothingness that comes from everything you do.
To fill the empty promises.
IF you just work hard.
Prove yourself.
Do this. That. Here. There. Everywhere.
Pick that slack. Put out the fires.
Run. Jump. How high. Not high enough.
Break your bones.
Burn out not only mentally but the person you are beyond this one aspect of life.
All in hopes that one day.
The value you bring. Might be honestly compensated for beyond empty words and thank yous.
In hopes that one day you're given back all the blood and sweat.
The health and time.
The talent.
The caring.
The presence when they werent even around to repair the sinking ship.
But no... You're just the worker bee
Collecting honey to fill their belly's.
And you'll work until you die
Thinking that was all to this unlived life beyond the beehive.
