Shark
The ocean currents begin to grow dark,
as the formidable shape of shark
enters the stillness of the bay,
cruising in tune with tide’s ebb and sway.
So smooth – such ease
as he doth please,
this cunning beast slinks fathoms deep
to realms where only he dares creep.
This eager predator so sharp and sleek
slinks through the water so swift and meek
until he spies a tasty seal
and then he pounces with zest and zeal.
So fast – so slick
he plays his tricks,
until the shark has had his fill
and then returns to sleeping still.
The aqua blue and greenish ocean hues
sparkle once more as shark moves from view,
just glad that all is safe and well,
and surfers can once more ride the swell.
So quick – such speed
the surfers heed
to ride the crystal waves so high
away from shark’s sharp eager eye.
About this poem
Sitting watching the waves one warm, sunny day, a shark cruised by. he meant no harm and left peacefully, as did I. The poem begins slowly as does the shark, and then builds momentum as he spies and takes his catch, and then the poem slows again as shark leaves.
