Love Thy Enemy
Santosh Madihalli 1979 (Goa)
Centuries before you and me ,
A wise sage preached ,
" Love Thy Enemy"
A fool was he ,
For how could we ,
Love our enemy?
On his head was placed a crown of thorns,
He was whipped till his flesh had shorn,
Nailed to a cross for all to see ,
A mockery his tormenters wanted him to be,
Waiting for death to set him free,
The shining star within only few could see ,
Drenched in his blood he still preached,
Down the ages to us has reached ,
"Love Thy Enemy"
A fool was he ,
For how could we,
Love our enemy?
News of violence everywhere,
Dusk of the dark age we're still no where.
Humanity has split into separate poles,
Greed and ignorance swaying their mighty swords,
Two rams colliding on a mountain track ,
Will fight to death but won't step back.
The wise sage's words now clearly could I see ,
Revenge is the surest way to misery,
An eye for an eye shall make the full world blind,
The shining star then none shall find,
The lamp of love once lit can fight,
Anger and it's allies misery and plight.
So wise is he , who loves his enemy,
A shining star guiding our destiny.
