The Search
Step by step, she climbs,
braving time and steep cliffs
as her love almost lifts her,
ensuring she would reach her goal.
Dirt and coal from the fire
add to the tired look in her face,
but, still, that place was the destination,
divination had told her so.
She could only know the top was near,
here hope was all she had
but, for now, sadness had no home;
it was left to roam on the mountainside.
Outside, the sun broke the clouds,
and loud, inside, her heart was screaming,
for all her dreaming was to come true,
and love would ensue for her.
Then, it occurred that in those last minutes
the sun was shut out and rain poured,
the roar of the excitement faded
and bade much of hope goodbye.
The crying of the sky hindered progress,
but through transgressions and mistakes
doubt was forsaken and a tiny glow shone
as she atoned to reach the peak.
Yet, the man she was seeking was not there,
the spirit left bare the world,
and the girl, told by the sun,
knew her waiting had only just begun.
