 I AM H I P H O P

By: Kiara S. Themes

I was birthed from the rhythms

And beats of drum love making

On that African safari

What my mother conceived she never

Would have thought to believe

Would become later perceived as

Revolutionary

My eyes are the windows of opportunity so for

That little boy or little girl who wants to make it out of

Those trash littered streets take heed

Please let me guide you and be your guard

Don’t pick up that needle

Pick up your pencil and write to the beat of my heart

I am voice of that insecure little girl

Who cant find her place in a backwards world

Because they use my name to call her names beaneath her worth

Why do they exploit me?

They take my name out of

Context by using violence and sex

To make a excuse of their own insecure complexes

Why?

I remember when I was wife of

Afrikka bambata, KRS-1 and Rakim

Now I am mistress of the game

They use their skinny jeans

Like trap music nooses trying to choke the

Life from which I came so self

Consciously slandering my name

This is how they treat me

Many say I am dead

But I will never be deceased

I live in the souls

Of talented MC’s

That breathe life into my

Body everytime they speak into

M.I.C’s

Yes I live in the hearts

Of many and my pulse will never stopMy name is hip hop
