Hi I am Reshmika from Chennai,Tamilnadu, India.I am 22 years old.I am a civil services aspirant which makes newspaper reading an integral part of my life.I come from a land where people from different religious,linguistic, social and cultural backgrounds co-exist.The motto of India is 'Unity in Diversity.But over the last couple of years over the course of my civil services exam preparation when I read the news paper every morning I witness disturbing articles which includes the silencing of the voices of dissent in a democracy such as India, instances of religious conflicts(majoritarianism) ,moral policing,custodial violence,prolonged judicial hearings leading to several hundreds of innocent undertrials languishing in prison etc. All these incidences inspired me to write this poem on what freedom means to me on the auspicious day of my nation's Independence Day which is on August 15th, 2021.It is a very subjective poem. But I hope you enjoy it and are able to relate with it on a personal note.
