My name is Kim. I live in Belfast in Northern Ireland. I am 62 years of age. I am a semi retired civil servant working in admin. In my spare time I enjoy spending my time with my friends walking and going for coffee. My Christian faith is very important to me and I would describe myself as very contemplative. I belong to a church group in person and also a contemplative group online. My hobbies are taking photos, writing poems, reading and a bit of gardening. I am a vegetarian and enjoy cooking vegetarian meals. I am a great animal lover and at present my family consists of my 15 year old tabby cat April and my 15 year old Shih Tzu dog Ben. At present I am doing two online courses. One on nature writing and the other on poetry. I am new to writing poems and have only started a few months back. I am enjoying being part of this community and the people are very friendly and supportive. Written on 8th May 2024. Kim

Over the Hills and over the Plain

I remember the times of being free,
My wee back legs would carry me,
Over the hills and over the plain,
Oh, I wish I could have those times again.

For my wee back legs, they went downhill,
And oh it was such a bitter pill,
Over the hills and...

My Dog

Frolicking, jumping and running free,
I hope you know how much you mean to me,
Eyes like saucers and a button nose,
Peacefully sleeping I watch you dose.

Through mountains and forests and hills we'd climb,
I am so glad that you are mine,
...

My Cat

Your eyes are enchanting an emerald green,
Your coat is so soft as I watch you preen,
Tiny toes and tiny paws,
But one thing's for sure don't go near those claws!

You love your cuddles but your spirit is free,
And sometimes you say "don't...

2,000 Years From Now - A World without Humans - Short Story

No more, the humans were no more. Nature thrived without them. Paths became forests and grasslands. Animals became free to multiply and yet some were lost on the way. Tigers and rhinos had become extinct. Some birds had been shot down. Humans had...

The day had started out sunny and warm. So, I decided to take myself off on a walk up the Mourne Mountains. The Mournes are well known for their beauty and splendour in Northern Ireland and throughout the world. They are majestic and filled with...

thank you so much. Yes the water is like the human soul. The running of the water represents a soul set free. Thank you for your comments. Kim

thank you. I am doing a course on nature writing online. So sometimes it is a poem and sometimes it is prose. The Mournes are a beautiful mountain range in Northern Ireland which I have been to many times. Thankfully with friends and never on my own. The story is fictional but it was to show the beauty of nature and how nature is also cruel at times. Something I was asked to do in my online course. I am keeping well and I hope you are also. Kim
