Analysis of WHY

A very young boy
And a very old man
Trod the lone empty beach
Upon the soft white sand

The warm morning sun
And the cool ocean breeze
Fell soft upon the skin
Creating a sense of serenity

The young boy wondered
Why the sky was so blue
Why the sand was so soft
What gave the ocean its hue

Why do gulls floating so leisurely over head
Suddenly plunge seaward is it just to be fed
What makes the waves rush so swiftly to the shore
And why do they turn back only o return once more

Where goes the sun
When it sinks into the sea
And from where comes the wind
When it's on the lee

The old man smiled remembering when
These marvels of life were such a mystery to him
When everything seemed magical
A wonder to be found
And when later discovered
Always more questions abound

Like why are we here
And what are we to do
What is our purpose
How he wis he knew

Why do we struggle
And why do we care
To whom must we answer
Is anyone really there

Why does a man
Live his life in this way
Seeking answers to questions
That hold him at bay

How will he know
And what must he do
To rejoin these questions
That certainly are not new

Pausing for a moment
Upon the warm white sand
The old man reflected
Upon his time at hand

How had he lived
And what had he done
Did is life have meaning
Had his song been sung

Might he done things differently
Or maybe not at all
Who was to tell him
Was it really worth it all

The salt air was uplifting
Exhilarating and true
And once again he wondered
Why the sky was so blue
