TEACH THEM
TEACH THEM
Teach them virtue
Teach them hard work
Teach them discipline
Yes, teach them good morals
Teach your daughters,
The future manageresses
The future CEOs
The future doctors
The future teachers
The future engineers
The future nurses
The future accountants
The future headmistresses
In fact, the future every good somebody
Teach them that beauty isn’t a job
Teach them not to depend on men
Teach them to learn some skills
Teach them that men are not ATMs
The very World Bank they must cash from
Teach them savings
Teach your daughters that self confidence
Isn’t arrogance
Yes, teach them
That failure to use their brains
Makes their bodies a mere shopping mall
The exploitable restaurant
Enjoyed by even the undeserved
Teach them not to be afraid to voice out
Their opinions, their thought
Teach them that
They can be like Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
Yes, the former President of Liberia
They can also be the Oprah Winfrey of tomorrow
The Nana Aba of Journalism
The Jackie Appiah of movies
The Samira of the Vice Presidency
The Diana Hamilton of Ghana music industry
The Shirley Frimpong-Manso of African Movies
The Buchi Emecheta,
The Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie,
The Ama Ata Aidoo and many more of Literature
Teach them
That marriage isn’t the ultimate goal in life
That teenage pregnancy can steal their dreams
That dressing half naked
Won’t make them smart
That covering their nakedness
Doesn’t make them old-fashioned
And respecting men
Won’t make them cheap
Teach your daughters to dream big
Yes, to aim high
To make good use of their potential
And finally, teach them
That having a home,
A good husband and kids
Is a blessing from Above.
