Something About Parades
Something About Parades ©

As throngs of marchers pass me by
Proud minions of a cause
Some observers even cry!
I start to ponder this massive display
My brain somehow discomforted
And I am compelled to say
Pride is a rather unique strange fellow
It often prompts folks to proclaim and bellow
About one’s homeland, religion, sexuality
and shout out loud for all to see
So deeply proud it warrants a parade
Of things that were “givens”
Not choices that were made
It seems to me that pride should be
About choices you’ve made
In life, you see
Choices to be kind in all you strive for
Choices to be content and not just want more
Choices to love and turn your back on hate
Choices to lift up and not berate
Choices to leave this world a better place
Choices to embrace every race
Now don’t get me wrong, parades will continue
Marchers will march
Pride in every sinew
My point here is simple
not meant to degrade
Let’s march for good choices
In life we have made
About this poem
Celebrating the choices we have made in life rather than those things we were given.
