To become or not to become
That which we were divined to become.
That is the eternal question
That begs for an answer.

About this poem

This poem explores the teleological goal of human Individuation, as well as the ethical and philosophical question concerning the purpose of Being and of Becoming, existential concerns that preoccupied intellectual minds like those of William Shakespeare, the bard of Avon, Jean-Paul Satre, the philosopher of existentialism, and Carl Gustav Jung, the analytical psychologist; questions which eternally plead for the attention of all enquiring minds.

Retired educator of Jamaican ancestry with a lifelong interest in composing poetry dealing particularly with the metaphysics of self-reflection; completed a dissertation in Children’s Literature in 1991 at New York University entitled: An Analysis of Wilhelm Grimm’s ‘Liebe Mili’ (translated into English as “Dear Mili”), Employing Von Franzian Methodological Processes of Analytical Psychology.
