About this poem

This short poem invites us all to reflect on what it means to be thankful, and suggests that true gratitude comes from the heart. In Buddhist Tantric traditions, Anahata is a chakra symbol of the sound of potential energies ( of the sound that can be, but is not yet struck) that is registered in the celestial realm, and therefore, like Tao, is suggestive of balance, calmness, and serenity. In Sanskrit, Anahata is suggestive of that which harbors no hurt, but engenders only gratitude for everyone and for everything in every circumstances. Pictorially, the imagery of the word Anahata represents to me, the heart as the source of spiritual love from which genuine thankfulness emanates that unites humanity as kindred spirits. The title of this poem draws upon that concept.
