La plaine (II)
Par les plaines de mon âme, tournée au Nord,
Le vieux berger des novembres mornes, il corne,
Debout, comme un malheur, au seuil du bercail morne,
Il corne au loin l'appel des brebis de la mort.
L'étable est faite en moi avec mon vieux remord,
Au fond de mes pays de tristesse sans borne,
Par les plaines de mon âme, qu'une viorne,
Lasse de ses flots las, flétrit d'un cours retord.
Toisons noires à croix rouges sur les épaules
Et béliers couleur feu rentrent, à coups de gaules,
Comme ses lents péchés, en mon âme d'effroi.
Le vieux berger des novembres corne tempête :
Dites quel donc éclair a traversé ma tête
Pour que, ce soir, ma vie ait eu si peur de moi ?
