50 Shades Of Covid

Instructs the host, on how to kill off predecessors, smartly wiping out the competition
People mistakenly thinking, we did that ourselves, cheers all around, for nothing
Cycle after cycle, it wanes and zooms, up and down, each time coming back for more
Each wave, targeting a new section of genome, every time, a new bite at the apple

Everyone waiting in line, no idea if their time has come, just waiting for another iteration
Learns, but doesn't know, plans for a successful future, but has no idea of time
Discovered that anything that slowed down the host body, was bad for its future lives
Killed off those versions, that negatively impacted the host bodies mobility, total failures

Relying on emotions to carry it forward, doesn't matter how smart or dumb humans are
People as sitting ducks, waiting impatiently, sewn into the socialized fabrics of life
Power of human emotions, that's what drives this virus, most formidable drive on Earth
Motions based on emotions, a throwback to ancient times, or modern day animal life

Burrowing deep into the body, far from mainline defenses, the virus quietly lives
Will it kill off other viruses, to protect its cherished home and hearth, from other invaders
What's the optimum host life expectancy, for the virus's most successful run to immortality
That's what youth wants to know, maybe a hundred years, for all we know, is all we know
