Every Day

You act surprised
When I tell you about my depression,
But really,
Why should you be so shocked?
Don’t you know that
This is my life every day?
Depression follows me around
Wherever I go
Like a dog on a leash.
It’s like my shadow,
The blocker of the sun,
The terror of the night,
The knife held in my hand.
My life every day
Is filled with depression
And sorrow
And death and darkness,
So why would you be surprised?
You shouldn’t be
Because you should care enough to
Notice my depressed life.
