The River
“The river runs wild, “someone once said.
I can’t remember who, but it sticks in my head.
I admire the river, so savage and free,
Flowing where it wants, to the lake or the sea.
The river can be calm, and gentle sometimes,
But just like love, it can turn on a dime.
If the rain starts to fall and the wind begins to blow
There’s no telling which way the river will flow.
I love the sound of the waves splashing against each other.
Or the sight of ripples made when rain hits the water.
I stare at the river in my secret little place
And realize in a glance, the river has a face.
It takes just a moment until I can see,
I’m a lot like the river…
For the river is me.
