Genesis and Exodus

Richard Groff 1957 (Pottstown, Pa.)

When I was alone and all by myself
Standing in the middle of a vast field
 As evening approached
And the darkness of night set in

I cried out to God in my despair
I said to him
Jesus, I don’t even know if you exist
But if you do I need you now!

He heard my cry and he answered my prayer
He touched me and I knew it was him
Immediately my despair was gone
And I was left with an indescribable sense of peace

He was there but I didn’t see him
I did not perceive his presence
Until I called upon his Name

He touched me; he filled me
He picked me up and held me
He loves me, he holds me
He wakes me up, he told me
