Last Moments with Momma

You never really complained
Because you kept it all inside
I could tell you were drained
That part you couldn’t hide

When you started to lose weight
You said it was just a diet
You watched what you ate
And I was naive enough to buy it

The weight dropped so quick
Yet you kept on going
I didn’t know you were sick
Or had tumors growing

Then came the day
When you nearly fell out
Your skin was so gray
In agony you began to shout

You went in for tests
To try to find an answer
The pain in your chest
Was from lung cancer

To hear the news was a shock
so I bowed my head to pray
Only God knows the time on the clock
Of the moment we pass away.

I asked him to bless our days
Every moment that we spend
And to be with us always
From now till the very end

I won’t boast about tomorrow
Knowing tomorrow’s not promised
For our last day we do not know
According to the psalmist.

Every day I will pray
To have one more day with you.
I will read the word of God each day
To find my strength to get through

All the time we can share
I will cherish in my heart
Each day is an answered prayer
Until the day we are apart
