A woman, No retire

I Retire

I retire, She neighs
I decline, He yells
'I retire', I would have worked to say that word.
Says the male gender of this world
Tear my eyes, Near my pay
Tumbling with utter confusion, I am met
Fumbling with other distractions, I ease

Working at ease, I sprawl
Working on wealth, I spring
I am often accused of this crime
Even if it's just for the sake of rhyme
I am yet to understand this incorrect concussion, but yet
I am yet to educate this correct intuition

With the power I yield
And the tower I build
I will come crashing down
For I have come trashing down
I retire, but yet
I wake every night
To make every tight, yet loose ends
Come to bind, and
Calm the minds

They say a mother doesn't retire
But another does retire
From my moment of infancy
To my infant's infancy
I will work like a horse
Rest only when I am to nurse
And when I erase from the surface of the world
My name on lace, only to the surface of the word
I neigh like a horse, and yet
I retire like a loss

About this poem

This poem describes how a woman works tirelessly, but is still looked down on. How they are not allowed to live according to their own terms.
