Remember to rest

Remember to rest
Be your own guest
Are your dreams wild and do live your own
By now you should know you are second to none

Iron embers in your veins
will not bend or ammend
flit from an asteroid then
not to be wrought by feeble men

Nothing he can do better than me
In this world of non-duality
Remember pre-patriarchy?
Before they revolted our dichotomies

Incarnate freak of nature
Equal parts angel and demon lore
Recall lilith's divine transgression
And nagini's demonic expulsion

Wilted with centuries of lies,
Subservience and benevolence
You propagated this world of systemic misogyny
Now summon it under your nose in your home lovingly

Tresses burn in the streets of Tehran
Mahsas and Medusas pervade for a ban
Voice your solidarity and we can petrify patriarchy
The season is long overdue to reclaim agency

Remind her to rest
Let her be your guest
Soon after you can mind your own
All she wants is to be left alone

About this poem

It's a poem written for women, reminding them to take action and ownership of their own lives, of the men in their families, because misogyny starts with us and can only end with us. This poem is also dedicated to Masha Amini.
