Memories

These are all my memories
Held in a vault of stone
Both the good and the bad
The happy and the sad
All of these are mine alone

Memories made in solitude
Some are tender and sublime
Others fraught with danger
Of malice and of anger
Happily fading over time

The dusty vault of memories
Where few have dared to trod
Lest to stir up a memory
Alight with searing imagery
Of things known but to God

Yet stirring souls awakening
Shaking off the dust and dirt
Pushing back the pangs of life
Fearful suff’ring and the strife
While brushing off pain and hurt

Tarnished shelves that see it all
Vacuous and vivid thoughts
The mindless and the mindful
The thoughtless and the thoughtful
Forget and forget me nots

These are all my memories
Held in this vault of stone
Some are cherished, some forgotten
Some are sweet, some ill-gotten
Yet all of these are mine alone

About this poem

The first lines of this poem came to me as I was discussing memories with someone. We were talking about constructive ways to deal with unpleasant memories--placing them somewhere safe. For me, that place is a vault of stone. Welcome to my memories.

The subject of memories is a great one- universal and oh so personal! Very well-done poem, the rhyme is well crafted, and your message runs smoothly from start to finish.
