The Enemy, The Inner Me.

My brother shined a shared light, into my life, today. A magic carpet ride into the mind where memories lay. Reminisce of a glimpse where I breathe a better me. Tears fall with purpose sounding off like wedding bells, as I’m shedding scales of the melancholy. Though the distance of this once joyful existence, seems so far. I become persistence, through all resistance of obstacles that traps me like prison bars. How can the sun shine so bright, but yet its night and shadow is all I see? I yell to the rain, for this ball and chain doesn’t exist outside of me. The weakened soul begs and pleas, to point in the direction, separating the blame from thee. Painfully, without a snare, I declare,” The only Enemy is my Inner me.”

About this poem

This is a reflective poem I wrote after a talk with my brother. He reminded me of a time I inspired him so much. He mentioned seeing me walk outside and embrace the sunlight as it warmed my face. Now he lives with the same experience and I no longer. Sickness and health tribulations has separated me from this existence. So now I seek to return to my once joyful self.
