When You Translate

When You Translate
Author: Mark V. Markov

When you translate
Any literature
From an original author
That original author
Is still the author of that literature
Whether it is a poem, a lyric, or a book

Just because you translate it
Doesn’t mean that you are an author
You are a translator
That is why
They say translated by
And not authored by

That is why
When you see Joyce Meyer’s book
In Spanish
She is still the author
Of the book in Spanish
As she is the author
Of the book in English

Even though she doesn’t speak
Fluent Spanish
This should be not complicated
Like one plus one equals two

You cannot put your name
As an author
If you translated someone else’s literature
It is basically stealing
From someone
And lying and saying that it’s yours

Because if it wasn’t written originally
In the language it was written in
It would’ve never existed
And if it never existed
You would have nothing to translate

So therefore when you translate
You cannot claim it as an author
But you can be credited as a translator

Unless you are the original author
And understands another language
Or hires a professional translator
To translate your own literature
Then of course the original author
Gets carried over
As the author in any language
His or hers literature is translated in.
By him, her, or another translator

When you translate
Any literature
From an original author
That original author
Is still the author of that literature
Whether it is a poem, a lyric, or a book...
