Addicted to truth

Addiction is a thief that steals your soul
Leaving you empty, broken and alone
It takes over your life, becoming your only goal
Until you can't remember who you used to be known

The pain of addiction is a constant ache
A never-ending battle you can't seem to shake
It's a demon that haunts you day and night
A weight on your shoulders that's always in sight

You try to quit, but the cravings are strong
The addiction calls out, and you can't resist for long
It promises relief, but only brings more pain
Leaving you helpless to fight the addiction again

The pain of addiction is a lonely road,
A journey you have to walk alone
It's a battle that only you can fight,
And the road to recovery is a difficult plight

But know that you're not alone in your fight
There are people who care, who'll help you make it right
With love, support, and guidance, you can overcome
The pain of addiction and starting a new dawn.

About this poem

I was drawn into addiction when I was married to an addict. I was weak and joined him in using to create a better bond but quickly realized the hardships I aligned myself with in trying to break free from addictions hold.
