Depths of shattered love by Elizabeth lily

In the depths of shattered love, a toxic web was spun,
A relationship of darkness, where pain was never shunned.
Within the fragile walls of our childhood abode,
We bore witness to violence, a story yet untold.
My parents, in their turmoil, clashed like thunderstorms,
Leaving scars upon our innocence, in our hearts and forms.
A burden too heavy for tender souls to bear,
As darkness danced with daylight, engulfing us in despair.
My mother, a gentle soul, ensnared in anguish deep,
Her pain etched upon her face, a secret she would keep.
The weight of bruises hidden, her spirit worn and frail,
Oh, how I longed to heal her, to mend her shattered sail.
But in the eyes of kin, my father wore a mask,
They blamed my mother, unfairly, their judgments unasked.
A family divided, unable to comprehend,
The torment she endured, a cycle without end.
My father, shaped by hardship, his own demons to face,
A childhood marred by violence, a world devoid of grace.
His father's fists, relentless, his refuge torn apart,
In children's homes, he sought solace, a fractured child's heart.
Perhaps those haunting echoes, etched deep within his soul,
Led him down a path of destruction, where darkness took its toll.
Financial struggles burdened, affairs deepened their plight,
We children stood as witnesses, lost in endless night.
In this distorted tapestry, fights became the norm,
We sought refuge in fleeting moments, escaping from the storm.
Our days stretched out in shadows, away from the pain,
But scars, invisible yet present, forever would remain.

This was such a well written poem, and the tragic reality it depicts breaks my heart. If this is autobiographical, I hope the writing about it helps with the healing.

Thank you very much for your kind words about my poetry. To be honest, my poetry serves as my personal diary, and this particular piece is one that makes me feel less vulnerable and more courageous to share. It's a therapeutic journey for me, and I genuinely hope that my words can serve as inspiration and encouragement for others to also express themselve :-)

This was one of my favorites Elizabeth. You actually captured my own childhood very vividly, and the strength and flow were never interrupted with 'forced' anything. It just seemed to 'flow' from your soul. I think it is beautiful.

I chose this poem because it spoke to my heart and my soul as I read it. I felt the pain expressed in the poem. It was well written, and it moved me more than all the other poems I read, and I did read them all.
