This Young Love

Your words graze my body
Like the juices of a honeydew
To a child
On a bright summer's day

Your fingers search my face
As an adolescent finding where they fit in

Your lips kiss my skin
As a mothers tender touch
To her burdened child
In the icy isles of the lonely building

Our love is immature
Our love is the creativity of a baby drawing on the walls
That hold his heart up
Our love is the excitement of driving a car for your first time alone
Our love is the embarrassment of raising your hand to only be proven wrong

The fine line between unripeness and prime seems to blend into one when I look into your eyes
Pulling me into moments of startledness
Stranding from looming experience
As my body is pulled into that of a womans
With such power and stance above my child mirror

Seeing how you stretch my future
Brings me back to the youth of which my brain fulfills
But being in your presence makes me remember the times I've spent as a fully fledged member of the human race
In a past life or two

Because when you whisper your fingers across my legs
My soul understands you completely
No matter if my mind comprehends or not

About this poem

This poem was inspired by the people I’ve seen around me, stemming from my own personal experiences as a teenager finding out what love really means. Some days I am sure I am in love while other days I realize that I am too young and maybe I haven’t experienced it yet. This poem depicts my mind as I grow and mature in my relationships with myself and those around me, intertwining examples of my life as a little girl, twirled in with how those years still stick with me today.

London Arnett

I’ve been writing poetry ever since I was introduced to it in my last year of elementary school. The first poem I ever wrote was called “Bubbles”, inspired by the book Matched. It was a class project and ever since that day, I have taken a liking to the idea of immersing your self into the world of flowing words. Any disdain topic can be turned into art and beauty, either for just myself or those around me to see. Topics such as love, self growth, and fulfillment are ones that have inspired me throughout my whole life. And that is what I will write about. more…
