Blind

I was always the back-up

You’ll come to me when no one is around

I’ll never be your first choice

Not the second, not the third, just the one that was always misunderstood

You were the one that I called home.

The one that I promised to love till the day I die.

I thought about you every night

It messed with my mind

Yet, I was still blind

I wanted you to love me, the way I loved you

I wasn’t there from the start

So, I tried my best to play the part you gave me

Of a quiet, smart girl that you only needed when things were falling apart.

But, you still chose sides, and it surely wasn’t mine

I was never enough, but why did you throw me off to the side?

That made me go out of my mind

And yet, I was still blind.

Scars hid under my sleeve

My eye’s paint in black

As I tried to feel something other than the pain that you drove into me in every one of your acts

When you made me feel like nothing

I tried to be prettier and feel more superior

For a group of people that only accepted a few

You can't tell me that not true

I guess you lied, but so did I

You called me your best friend

Said I was your sister by heart

But, I always believed we would drift apart.

I just want you to know I knew that from the start

I’ll never be the one you run too

But, only when you don't have a clue

You come to me for the answer key

Cause that's the only thing you see in me

Why couldn’t I see the signs?

You said I’m not an original

If only you know how miserable that felt

How you let me melt, but I understand why you left me out

Everything perfectly aligned

Yet, I was still blind

About this poem

I wrote this poem because I put myself in a situation with a group of people where I was only wanted when there was struggles around. I hope that my poem can be relatable (I'm sorry if you've been through this) or prevent this from happening to people.
